The Lion and the Dove (2013) by Michael Aaron Hall

9,000.00

This is a multi-figure sculpture originally intended to be executed in marble. I was inspired to create this piece while I was listening to an interview of Elizabeth Smart on the radio. As I listened I began to think about justice and mercy and I created the original concept for the piece while listening to the interview.

This piece depicts Jesus Christ as the great Jehovah wearing the mantle of judgment around his neck. On His left, a young boy (the Lion) representing justice, holds the arm of Jehovah, reminding us that justice is ever present. On His right, the figure of the young girl (the Dove) represents mercy. His body is slightly turned toward the young girl with his arm around her, representing my own personal belief and hope that even though justice is needed, that mercy will play a greater role at the Day of Judgment. The throne that Jehovah sits on is a simple block of stone, and on the back there is a small crack in the stone that is symbolic of man’s understanding of the judgment of God. On Christ’s lap lies a scroll, which symbolizes the recorded history of the individual lives of humanity.

Dimensions: 25 x 13 ½ x 16 ¼  in.
