The Right Hand of Man is one of two sculptures created that depict civilizations from the Old and New World. Both pieces are multi-figure compositions that are designed to form the illusion of hands. The Right Hand of Man represents the peoples of Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, and India. The figure on the right (or the thumb figure) represents India and South Asia. The (index finger) represents Europe and Scandinavia. The next figure (middle finger) represents the continent of Africa. The (ring finger) represents the people of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. And the (pinky finger) represents the people of Asia and the Far East. The two figures in the palm represent the people of Israel. The figures of the lamb and the lion on the back of the piece symbolize the ideal of humanity living in peace together. The male figure at the back of the piece with the dog on his lap represents the fate of tyranny and the oppressor and is based on the fall of the Roman Empire.
