Convenient Charity (2011) by Jeff Hein

60,000.00

While struggling to make his own career as an artist and raise a small family, Hein had a close friend who was diagnosed with cancer. The cost of treatment became overwhelming. Jeff and his wife — meager as their means were — offered friendship and financial help. Unable to fully meet their friend’s needs, they worried about not doing enough. This painting represents Hein’s concerns. On one side of the table, where Hein saw himself sitting, is a beautiful place setting and meal. The other side of the table, representing his friend, we see the groceries of someone who is getting by on the very least. Hein invited his children to draw memories of the friend in the foreground. In one, we see the cancer patient walking with an IV cart, in another praying for help.

Dimensions: 57 ½ x 36 in.
